Location
Our 2022 Annual Gathering will be held in the University of Washington's Kane Hall, off the iconic UW Red Square. Walking distance to the Burke Museum, The Henry Art Gallery and the Suzzallo and Allen Libraries and a short train ride to all that downtown Seattle has to offer, including the Seattle Art Museum and our conference hotel.
Please note: Masks are strongly encouraged according to the University of Washington Covid-19 Face Covering Policy. Attendees are also encouraged to take a COVID-19 viral test prior to the meeting: testing within 72 hours of an event is recommended if using a PCR test; testing day of the event is recommended if using a rapid antigen test.

Momin, Director of Curatorial Affairs, and Dr. Ann Poulson, Curator of Collections As the only museum dedicated to contemporary art in our region, the Henry is internationally recognized for groundbreaking exhibitions, for being on the cutting edge of contemporary art and culture, and for championing artists at every level of creation. Exhibitions on view include Donna Huanca: MAGMA SLIT and Nina Chanel Abney: Fishing Was His Life.

October 12, 12-2PM: WA State Arts Commission Outdoor Sculpture Collection Tour @ UW Campus -
Washington is home to the second oldest statewide public art program in the country. The State Art Collection includes more than 5,000 artworks located in public facilities such as college and university campuses. The University of Washington is home to 135 of these artworks, which range from small scale works on paper to large outdoor sculpture. Join Janae Huber, ArtsWA’s Collections Manager, on an outdoor walking tour of this gorgeous campus. Visit works by internationally acclaimed artists Martin Puryear, Robert Irwin, and Mary Miss, as well as works of regional import such as Antecedents by RYAN! Feddersen (Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, Okanogan, and Arrow Lakes Bands) and Guests from the Great River by Tony A. (naschio) Johnson (Chinook) and Adam McIsaac. No attendee limit.

Join SAM’s Objects Conservator for a tour of the Seattle Art Museum’s Neukom Conservation Studio, located downtown, to explore current projects from the museum’s global art collections. Attendee limit: 12
October 13, 10-11:30AM: Seattle Asian Art Museum Paintings Conservation Studio Tour -
Join SAM’s Chief Conservator for a tour of the Atsuhiko and Ina Goodwin Tateuchi Conservation Center at the Seattle Asian Art Museum. The new center is devoted to the conservation, mounting, and study of Asian paintings in SAM’s collection as well as serving institutional and private collections in the region. As such, it is the first museum center of its kind in the western United States. Attendee limit: 15
October 13, 10-11:30AM: SAM's Olympic Sculpture Park & Native Plant Tour
Covered in monumental artworks, this award-winning nine-acre sculpture park on the waterfront is Seattle's largest downtown green space. Join SAM’s Senior Conservator and SAM‘s Landscape Manager to learn about the outdoor sculpture collection and native plant restoration efforts at this transformed industrial site. No attendee limit.

WAAC has secured a group rate at the beautiful Hotel Andra in the heart of downtown, just steps from the Seattle Art Museum and the link light rail (a 10 minute journey to our conference location!)
Room Rate $180 per night (plus tax).

Where to go, How to get there and What to do
Airport:
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). Taxis, Lyft/Uber, and light rail go to all venues.
Transit:
Link light rail (Line 1) runs from SeaTac airport to downtown Seattle and to the University of Washington. Tickets (Orca) can be purchased at any kiosk or via the TransitGo app on your phone.
Taking public transit from SeaTac airport to Hotel Andra (downtown):
From baggage claim, follow the signs for Link light rail (~10min walk). A free electric shuttle also operates between the airport skybridge and light rail station. Take Line 1 toward Northgate and get off at Westlake Station. See here for more info. Exiting Westlake Station, walk 2 blocks north on 4th Ave. Hotel Andra will be on the corner of 4th and Virginia.
Taking public transit from Hotel Andra (downtown) to Kane Hall (University of Washington campus):
Walk two blocks south on 4th Ave to the Westlake light rail station. Take Line 1 toward Northgate and get off at the U District Station. Exiting the station, walk east on NE 43rd St and turn right on 15th Ave. Take the pedestrian overpass to the Henry Art Gallery, and continue straight toward the brick plaza called Red Square. Kane Hall will be on your left. WAAC is held in the Walker-Ames room inside Kane Hall.
Old Stove Brewing is located at Pike Place Market, 1901 Western Ave. From Hotel Andra, walk four blocks west on Virginia Ave to Western Ave. Walk left and the brewery will be on your right, slightly down the hill. WAAC will informally gather at tables on the outdoor balcony (weather permitting) - look for Nick Dorman with a handmade WAAC sign.
Hotel Andra to the Seattle Art Museum (SAM):
From Hotel Andra, walk three blocks west on Virginia Ave. Turn left on 1st Ave and walk three blocks to SAM’s entrance on the corner of Union and 1st. Enter here and look for WAAC signs directing you past the ticket booth to our reserved room.
